Hotels Near the Port of Cozumel
The port area in Cozumel is bustling, with ferries arriving from Playa del Carmen and large cruise ships. It’s a great spot for a stroll, with plenty of restaurants, shops, and cafés nearby. You can also visit the Cozumel Museum to learn about the island’s history, culture, and natural environment.
For a good meal, I’d suggest the Café de la Isla for breakfast, or try La Cocay or La Choza for more affordable, local options. If you’re in the mood for a tiki vibe, Cocomama Tiki Room is a must!
Since the port is in the center of Cozumel, it’s super convenient for exploring and is close to your boat, making it easy to enjoy the island right up until departure.
My Top Picks for Hotels Near the Port of Cozumel
- Casa Mexicana Cozumel: A friendly hotel in Cozumel’s main square, with modern rooms and balconies overlooking the town or the sea. From 87 $usd per night, buffet breakfast included. Hotels Near Downtown Cozumel
When you arrive at the island’s port, you’ll find yourself right in the heart of Cozumel, also known as San Miguel de Cozumel.
Here, you’ll discover a lively area filled with restaurants, souvenir shops, supermarkets, banks, bars, and cozy cafés.
Staying in downtown Cozumel is perfect for having everything within easy reach!

Hotels Near Punta Sur
Punta Sur is one of my absolute favorite spots in Cozumel!
Located on the island’s southern tip, it’s home to a stunning 1,000-hectare protected reserve filled with palm trees, lakes, and white sandy beaches.
Things to Do in Punta Sur:
- Climb to the top of the Celerain lighthouse for panoramic views of the entire area
- Explore the El Caracol archaeological site
- Take a boat trip on Laguna Colombia with a guide to spot crocodiles and local bird species
- Relax on the beautiful Chunchacab Beach with its soft sand and clear waters—one of my favorite beaches in Mexico! ??
You can get there on your own from downtown by renting a car or motorcycle, or you can join the Punta Sur Jeep Tour, which includes the main sights, a tequila tasting, lunch at a beach club, and free time on the beach.
My Top Picks for Hotels Close to Punta Sur
Since Punta Sur is a protected reserve, there aren’t any hotels directly on-site. But here are some wonderful options nearby, with easy access to the road leading to Punta Sur:
- Villas El Encanto Cozumel: Just a block from the Caribbean Sea, this charming resort features modern apartments overlooking lush tropical gardens. From 109 $usd per night. Highlights: terraced garden, pool, and palapa-style rooftop lounge. Great for a peaceful, relaxing stay in Cozumel.

Beachfront Hotels in Cozumel
The beaches on the island of Cozumel are truly stunning, with white sand and turquoise waters that feel like paradise.
On the west coast, from Punta Norte to Punta Sur, you’ll find spots like Isla de la Pasión, San Francisco, and Playa Palancar, all featuring calm waters and reefs ideal for snorkeling and diving.
On the eastern side, the ocean is wilder—great for sports like surfing and kitesurfing at beaches such as Playa Bonita, Playa San Martín, and Chen Río, which is also a good option for families with its sheltered bay and nearby restaurants.
And if you’re just looking to unwind and soak in the scenery, don’t miss El Cielo and Punta Sur!

All-Inclusive Hotels in Cozumel
Cozumel is a beautiful island, but it’s true that getting around can be challenging—transportation options are limited!
As Mexico’s 3rd largest island, covering 467.9 km², Cozumel is difficult to navigate without a car or scooter, as public transportation is minimal.
So, if you’re planning to stay overnight in Cozumel, the best solution is either to stay in the center—which may be less scenic—or to choose an all-inclusive resort where you can enjoy a beautiful beach, facilities, activities, and dining all in one place.

Cheap Hotels in Cozumel
Enjoying Cozumel on a budget is definitely possible with a few smart tips!

- For a beach day, clubs like Sky Reef and Palancar have no entry fees or minimum consumption. You can also enjoy the free public beach near Playa Mia.
- For affordable dining, try places like La Pacifica (open from 3pm), Fondita Don Jose, Crazy King Burrito, or the Cozumel Market. It’s best to skip the pricier seafront restaurants.
- For a drink with a view, the Money Bar is ideal, featuring a sea-facing terrace, no minimum order, and 2-for-1 happy hour from 5pm with live music. Or enjoy a few beers under the palm trees at the public beach nearby with the same amazing view!

Is It Safe to Go to Cozumel?
Yes, Cozumel is considered a safe destination in Mexico, even for families and solo travelers. As always, it’s smart to keep an eye on your belongings and watch out for scams, just like in any popular tourist spot! 😉
When Should I Book My Hotel in Cozumel to Get the Best Rate?
The best time to book a hotel in Cozumel is outside the peak season (December to April).
Ideally, book 3 to 4 months in advance to get more choices, as hotel rates in Cozumel tend to be a bit high and the best-value options fill up quickly.
What’s the Best Hotel in Cozumel for Solo Travelers?
Cozumel is ideal for solo travelers, but since many hotels and beaches are spread out, I’d recommend staying in the center to be close to everything. I especially suggest Hostel Auikyani for its friendly atmosphere, perfect for meeting other travelers.
Can I Stay Close to the Best Diving and Snorkeling Sites Without a Car?
While Cozumel is a large island and having a car is convenient, some hotels offer direct access to popular dive sites, like Casa Mexicana Cozumel and Playa Azul Cozumel.
Renting a Car in Cozumel
Renting a car is the best way to explore Cozumel—perfect for discovering every corner of the island at your own pace.
When it comes to renting a car, my go-to is always Booking.com Cars, and here’s why:
- It’s the easiest way to compare prices across rental agencies: you can instantly spot the best deal!
- Free cancellation is often available: so you have flexibility if your plans change.
- Full insurance coverage at a better price: Booking Cars offers insurance options that are typically more affordable than those from the rental companies—an easy way to save!
