Frequently Asked Questions About All-Inclusive Hotels in Playa del Carmen
1. What services are included in all-inclusive packages?
The services included typically cover your room, meals, drinks (premium drinks may have additional costs), entertainment, and access to facilities such as swimming pools and gyms.
Some activities are also included:
- Included: kayak rentals, aquafitness in the pool, dance or cooking classes, evening shows, and themed nights.
- At an additional cost: spa treatments, excursions to places like Chichen Itza or Tulum ruins, snorkeling in Cozumel, swimming with turtles in Akumal and visits to parks like Xcaret.
2. Are airport shuttles included in all-inclusive hotel packages?
Generally, airport shuttles are not included. However, some high-end resorts like Xcaret Hotels or Palafitos Overwater Bungalows may provide complimentary transfers. Be sure to check with your hotel when booking.
If transportation is not included, you can easily book a shuttle here:
3. Are tips expected at all-inclusive hotels?
Yes, even in all-inclusive hotels, tipping is customary and appreciated by staff. Here’s a quick guide:
- Buffet service: 50 pesos per table
- A la carte dining: 100 pesos per couple
- Housekeeping: 50 pesos per day
- Luggage handler: 20 pesos per bag
- Bartender: 20 pesos per drink. I recommend starting with a larger tip (200 pesos) if you plan to stick with the same bartender for continued great service.
However, if you’re carrying euros or Canadian dollars, it’s better to exchange them for Mexican pesos during your trip. Pesos are more convenient for tips, souvenirs, and other small purchases.
If prices are listed in both pesos and U.S. dollars, double-check the exchange rate to avoid overpaying.
4. Do all-inclusive hotels cater to dietary restrictions?
Yes, many all-inclusive resorts offer vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and keto-friendly options.
To ensure the best experience, especially for allergies, let the hotel know your requirements when booking or upon arrival.
5. Is Wi-Fi included in all-inclusive hotels?
Wi-Fi is typically included, but network quality varies between resorts. If reliable internet is crucial for work, like video calls, I suggest checking guest reviews specifically about Wi-Fi on platforms like Booking.com.
6. When is the best time to visit Playa del Carmen for an all-inclusive vacation?
The best time is from late November to April, with sunny weather and comfortable temperatures. However, note that Christmas/New Year’s and Spring Break are peak seasons with more travelers and higher prices.
7. Is there sargassum on the beaches of Playa del Carmen’s all-inclusive hotels?
This is an important concern for many travelers! Fortunately, most high-end all-inclusive hotels, like Grand Velas Riviera Maya, Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun, and Palmaïa The House of AïA, regularly clean their beaches and often install barriers to keep sargassum out of the water.
For peace of mind, I recommend checking recent reviews about the condition of the beach when booking your hotel.
