My selection of the best hotels in Puerto Morelos
I stayed at the Hacienda Morelos hotel, which has a perfect location, very close to the main square.

There are also other great hotels in Puerto Morelos for all budgets:
- Cuca Macuca: This is the best budget hotel in Puerto Morelos, only a 2-minute walk from the plaza and the beach. It has a rooftop terrace with lounge chairs and a small pool, a fully equipped kitchen, good wifi, and very friendly staff. You can stay here for only 22 usd in a shared dorm or 55 usd for a room!
- Kayab House: This is a house in front of the sea with comfortable rooms, a very quiet beach, access to the fully equipped kitchen, and a warm welcome from the owner. You can book it for 77 usd per night!
- Maya-Ha Village: comfortable cabins for up to 4 people, located in a lush nature with private cenotes. Ideal for relaxation and meditation, with a spa and a restaurant, from 122 $usd per night!
- Oom Bubble Boutique Riviera Cancun: a unique and romantic getaway, where you can sleep in transparent bubbles in the Mayan jungle with air conditioning. You can also enjoy the swimming pool and a good restaurant. From 280 $usd per night!
- Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort: this is the perfect choice for families with children. This all-inclusive hotel offers a children’s playroom, a water slide, 4 restaurants, a large swimming pool, and a beach with beds, sun loungers, and hammocks. From 580 $usd per night!
My experience at the Hacienda Morelos beachfront hotel
I wanted a beachfront hotel in Puerto Morelos with a pool and a central location, so I could walk to everything I needed. That’s how I discovered the Hacienda Morelos.
I was a bit doubtful about booking because of its low rating on Booking (7.7 when I visited).
But it was the only hotel in Puerto Morelos that matched my criteria and budget, so I decided to try it.
I stayed there for 3 nights before heading to El Cuyo in Yucatan, and I was happy with my experience. I think this hotel deserves a better rating.

The rooms
The hotel has two buildings with two floors each, and a restaurant in the middle.
I stayed in a superior room, which was one of the cheapest options. It didn’t have a balcony or terrace like the other rooms, but it had a beautiful view of the sea and the pool.
The decor is a bit old-fashioned, but the bed (king) is cozy, with TV (+netflix), air conditioning, fan, safe, and daily cleaning service.
I was also concerned about noise because our room was right above the restaurant, and I like to sleep early. But it was not a problem at all. The music was always low and it closed at 10pm every day.
The bathroom was immaculate, the shower had a great water pressure, but there was no hot water in the morning or at night. It wasn’t freezing, but it was cool.
It wasn’t a big deal considering the warm weather, but it would have been nice to know beforehand.
The restaurant
The hotel and Muelle Once restaurant share the same building, but they are no longer affiliated. A waiter told me that they split into two separate businesses.
That’s why breakfast is not included in the rate.
The restaurant has a stunning view of the water and a very friendly staff. The prices are high, but that’s normal for a beach restaurant in the Riviera Maya. I loved it – it was one of the best places to eat in Puerto Morelos!
You should try these dishes at Muelle Once: margarita, guacamole (125 pesos), tuna tartar (225 pesos), fresh oysters gratin with gruyere and parmesan (6 for 290 pesos), seafood flatbread (320 pesos).
They also have a great breakfast menu, with eggs, pastries, juices, coffees, and more. I enjoyed the cheese and chaya omelette (145 pesos) and their green juice.

The hotel’s location
The hotel has a fantastic location.
It’s right on the beach, and opposite the Chedraui Selecto supermarket (with several ATMs inside) and a money exchange. Very convenient.
It’s also 330 ft from the main square, where you can find the lighthouse, the pier, and a variety of restaurants, bars, cafes, Oxxo, pharmacy. You couldn’t ask for a better spot.
The facilities
The hotel has a private pool for its guests, with a few lounge chairs and umbrellas.
The hotel has two sections of the beach with some chairs and tables: one for hotel guests (with loungers) and one for restaurant guests (with loungers, tables and chairs).
As I mentioned before, the Muelle Once restaurant is amazing, so you should try it out too (it opens at 8.30 for breakfast). You can also use their facilities, which are nicer than the hotel’s.
The area is not very large, so it’s better to get there early. It can get busy in the evening, especially on weekends. It’s a wonderful spot, with a great view.
The hotel doesn’t have many places to sit and work without buying something, except for the lobby. That would be helpful for people who, like me, travel with their laptop.
If you are one of them, choose a room with a balcony or terrace. They have a table, and it’s much nicer!
- The wifi is great, even in the room.
My opinion about Hacienda Morelos Hotel
My stay at Hacienda Morelos reminded me, once again, that it’s better to see a place for yourself because we all have different preferences, needs, and situations (family, couple, etc.).
The problem here would be to expect a luxury or all-inclusive hotel, just because it’s on the beach.
No, it’s a 3 star hotel on the beach, with a great restaurant that is now a separate business.
You need to understand that Puerto Morelos is not like Cancun, Playa del Carmen, or Tulum, and that’s a good thing! The small town is a hidden gem of the Riviera Maya, with many perks, but also some drawbacks, such as a limited hotel selection.
The result of this lack of hotel competition is that Hacienda Morelos doesn’t bother to upgrade their facilities and service, since they don’t have any rivals from another beachfront hotel in the center.
I would love to go back there. The beach access and the perfect location (330 ft from the main square) are what I value the most. I like to walk everywhere, without a car.
The hotel had a diverse mix of guests. I saw young families with kids, couples in their 30s and 40s, and some seniors. There was something for everyone.
How to get to Hacienda Morelos
The hotel is located on Rafael E. Melgar Street, just steps from the main square of Puerto Morelos.
It is easy to get there from Cancun airport (20 min) and Playa del Carmen (30 min).
- By car: 20 min from Cancun airport, 30 min from downtown Cancun, 30 min from Playa del Carmen. First follow Highway 307, then take José María Morelos street which connects the town with the beach area.
- By public transportation: ADO buses run daily. The ADO terminal in Puerto Morelos is at the intersection of Highway 307 and the street that goes to the beach. From there you have to walk 1.2 miles (2 km) or take a cab. When you reach the plaza, the hotel is on your right, a 2-minute walk.
- By private transportation: if you are coming from Cancun airport, this is the best way to get there. It’s fast, comfortable, and hassle-free. I chose this option and I was very happy with it. The driver was very nice and helpful.
You can book your transfer here by choosing the one way or round trip option. It’s easy and convenient, and you’ll save time and money.
