Alternatively, Antonia Rooftop offers a fantastic combination of gourmet food and unbeatable views of the city from above. Whether you’re craving tacos, seafood, or something more refined, this rooftop restaurant is a great choice.
If you’re looking for something casual and authentic during your 24 hours in San Miguel de Allende, head to the Ignacio Ramírez Market. It’s my go-to spot for some of the best tacos in town, served by local vendors. Perfect for a quick, delicious meal while soaking in the lively market vibe!
Afternoon: Explore Art and Nature
After lunch, it’s time to dive into the artistic and natural sides of San Miguel de Allende.
I’ve got two great options for you, and it all depends on what you’re feeling and how you want to enjoy your afternoon:
Option 1: Art and Culture at Fábrica La Aurora
If you’re into art and design, then a visit to Fábrica La Aurora is a must-see and a perfect stop on your 1-day itinerary in San Miguel de Allende!
This former textile factory has been transformed into a creative hub, home to dozens of art galleries, studios, and unique shops. As you wander through the halls, you’ll find works from both local and international artists, ranging from contemporary paintings to sculptures and handcrafted furniture.

Start by heading to The Room Mezcalería, a cozy spot known for its excellent selection of mezcal and live music. If you’re new to mezcal, don’t hesitate to ask the staff—they’re passionate about this traditional Mexican spirit and happy to help you find one that suits your taste.
For a more relaxed vibe with stunning views, you can’t go wrong with a visit to Cielo Rooftop or La Azotea.
Both rooftops offer fantastic views of the historic center, especially at sunset when the Parroquia and surrounding buildings are beautifully illuminated.
It’s the perfect spot to grab a drink, relax, and soak in the magic of San Miguel de Allende as night falls but be sure to arrive early to grab a good seat, especially on weekends when these places tend to fill up quickly!
Where to Stay in San Miguel de Allende for a One-Day Visit
If you’re planning to spend the night in San Miguel de Allende, there are several good options to suit all budgets:

My Best Tips for 1 Day in San Miguel de Allende
- Best time to visit: San Miguel de Allende is a great destination year-round, but keep in mind that the city gets extremely busy during major events like the Independence Day festivities (September 15-16), Day of the Dead 💀(October 31 – November 2), and Christmas-New Year holidays. It’s really important to book your accommodations and activities well in advance if you’re planning to visit during these periods, as things fill up quickly! ⚠️
- Getting around: The city is very walkable, and you can easily explore most of the main attractions on foot. If you’re planning to visit places like El Charco del Ingenio, you’ll need a car or will have to arrange transportation.
- Where to park: If you’re driving, there are several parking lots near the city center. Make sure to arrive early to find a spot, as parking can be limited, especially on weekends or during busy holidays.
- Safety tip: San Miguel de Allende is generally very safe, but as with any popular tourist destination, it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on your belongings, especially in crowded areas.

Is 1 Day Enough to Visit San Miguel de Allende?
Yes, you can definitely see the main highlights of San Miguel de Allende in 1 day, especially if you focus on the historic center.
However, there’s so much more to discover!
San Miguel is incredibly photogenic, and beyond the center, you can explore different neighborhoods, visit Casa del Mayorazgo de la Canal, the Cultural Center “El Nigromante”, or dive into unique collections like the Ceremonial Masks Collection and the Museo del Juguete Popular Mexicano (La Esquina).
There are also plenty of activities around San Miguel, from visiting the pre-Hispanic pyramid of La Cañada de la Virgen with an archaeologist guide, to taking a horseback ride through the canyon (click here to book!) or enjoying a tour of the local vineyards.
